Primer is required when the surface to be painted exposes bare substrate such as plastic, fiberglass, or any type or metal. Primer will bond with the surface of the substrate and enable the adhesion of the paint to the repair area.

TUD Primer can be used to fill very shallow scratches or chips. If the damaged area is deep, then a spot putty must be used.

1. Clean the entire vehicle or part with soap and water to remove surface dirt. Be sure to rinse and dry the surface thoroughly.
2. Prepare the surface to be repaired using sandpaper (see Sanding Instructions).
3. Clean again with soap and water. Then remove any remaining contaminants by lightly wiping the area with the TUD Wax and Grease Remover.
4. Use a soft cloth to prime the tip of the Touch Up Pen Primer. Carefully depress the tip until it is saturated with primer. This will take 30-60 seconds.
5. Tape off the area to be painted. Taping creates a boundary to protect the non-damaged area from any touch up work.
6. Lightly dab the primer onto the area to be painted. Do not use a drawing or rubbing motion as if using a marker; simply dab. Cover the area thoroughly and allow it to dry for 5-10 minutes.  Repeat this process applying 2-3 coats of primer.  
7. The primer covers very well and builds up quickly. If you are attempting to fill or level a scratch or chip using the primer, you can repeat step 6 multiple times. However, after 3 coats, extend the dry time to 15-20 minutes and lightly sand the primer with 800-1000 grit sandpaper. If the damaged area is still not as smooth as you like, repeat step 6.  
8. Once satisfied with the application of the primer, allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes before applying the colorcoat.
